Britain’s Tyson Fury denies allegations of doping as reports surface of probe into world heavyweight champion
Promoters for world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury insist they are mystified by allegations that the undefeated Briton is embroiled in a doping investigation.
Reports today suggested that traces of a banned anabolic steroid had been found in a sample given by Fury last year, claims that brought a swift response from Fury’s camp.
Fury, 27, last week postponed his rematch with Wladimir Klitshcho after injuring an ankle during training.
“We are baffled by today’s story in the Sunday Mirror,” read a statement from Fury’s promoter Hennessy Sports. “Tyson Fury absolutely denies any allegation of doping.
“He looks forward to recovering from his injury and defending his titles against Wladimir Klitschko in October.”
Fury, meanwhile, remains on course for a super-fight with fellow Briton Anthony Joshua after the Londoner defended his IBF belt with a seventh-round knockout of American Dominic Breazeale on Saturday. Joshua, meanwhile, weighed into the controversy surrounding his potential opponent.
“I haven’t heard to much about it, but it’s a shame because he’s worked hard to get where he is,” said Joshua. “I just hope he can overcome it and bet back to winning ways, because it’s a fight everyone wanted to see and we were serious about.
“I hope it’s nothing serious. I hope we can continue on our collision course in the near future.”
