Brick Lane welcomes Tech City wiff waff
FACEBOOK lost against Funding Circle in the final of last night’s Ping Pong Fight Club, an event bringing together London’s more hand-eye co-ordinated tech companies, just off Brick Lane. Organised by Mind Candy – the tournament saw 14 of Tech City’s finest battle it out for the crown of Ping Pong Champ. Fancy it? Mind Candy’s Michael Acton Smith told The Capitalist he wants to get the City involved next time…
■ BRITISH cycling’s success internationally is the envy of the world and a handful of names are synonymous with this; Sir Bradley Wiggins, Sir Chris Hoy, Mark Cavendish… But could there be another Cavendish set to claim some of the glory. Step forward Cavendish Corporate Finance. The firm brokered the sale of Raleigh, the UK’s most famous cycle brand, and yesterday it was revealed they had handled the sale the of Boardman Bikes, chaired by cycling legend Chris Boardman, to Halfords. “It was a great honour to be involved in both deals as they are such prestigious cycling brands,” Jonathan Buxton, the Cavendish partner who led on the deal, told us. “I note that the Tour de France this year starts in Leeds and also has a stage in London. If British cycling continues its recent triumphant run perhaps the whole race will be held in the UK next year…” We’re not sure how our French neighbours would feel about that.
■ THE INVESTEC Derby festival gets under way today and we’re expecting all eyes to be on face of the event Jodie Kidd and the legions of well-heeled ladies as they vie to be crowned best dressed. After all, there’s a £500 shopping spree at Harvey Nicks at stake. But those more interested in fruits de mer than fascinators will no doubt be gathering in the rather exclusive Chez Roux restaurant tent where a menu designed by Albert Roux and son Michel Roux Jr will be on offer. Who doesn’t enjoy an assiette du bouche between races?
