Breaking Bad and Walking Dead cable channel AMC Networks is coming to the UK
Get ready box-set fans. AMC Networks, the cable network that has brought us such series as Breaking Bad and Mad Men, is launching in the UK this September – but only to BT customers.
The exclusive multi-year deal will kick off with the launch of Walking Dead spin-off Fear the Walking Dead on BT TV. Currently in production in Vancouver and Los Angeles, ths show will focus on new characters and storylines set in the zombie apocalypse.
Other AMC dramas will follow, alongside series from “other leading producers” and films “from the world's most popular film libraries”.
It is the latest in a number of iniatives by BT to bolster content on its TV platform, having recently added Netflix and Sky Sports 1 & 2 as well as launching a BT Store service, enabling users to “buy to keep” films and TV box sets .
BT will launch its Ultra HD box and BT Sport Ultra HD channel in August.
Ed Carroll, AMC Networks chief operating officer, said “This agreement highlights the strong demand for our channels and will enable us to continue developing a far-reaching platform for AMC’s original programming.”
AMC's big hit Breaking Bad is currently airing on recently launched UK channel Spike, which is part of the Channel 5 suite of channels, now operated by Viacom. The Mad Men finale recently aired on Sky Atlantic.
