BP oil spill bill hits £3.8bn as leak plugged
BP has so far paid out a total of $6.1bn (£3.8bn) in the Gulf of Mexico crisis, the company has said.
The bill includes the cost of stopping the flow of oil into the ocean and earlier containment measures.
Payouts to the Gulf states hit by the spill are also on the bill.
Meanwhile a total of $319m has been paid out in compensation to individuals and businesses hit in the crisis.
The firm said there were now 30,800 people working on the spill response.
Oil is no longer leaking into the Gulf of Mexico following the explosion on the Deepwater Horizon oil rig in April.
“BP believes the static kill and cementing procedures have been successful,” the company said.
