BP goes on the front foot in US court battle
OIL FIRM BP is to go on the offensive against a court ruling that it had been “grossly negligent” and “reckless” in the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill case.
BP has applied to the Eastern District of Louisiana court for either a new trial or a revised judgment.
The oil giant has alleged that the court’s original order “relied on testimony that had been appropriately excluded from evidence”. It added: “The fault allocation should be amended to adjust downward BP’s percentage of responsibility.”
It said the court should “alter its findings regarding causation, eliminate its finding that BP engaged in gross negligence… and modify the allocation of fault among the defendants” – drilling rig owner Transocean and cement firm Halliburton.
