Boris makes beeline for rugby star at IoD dinner
TO THE Royal Albert Hall yesterday, for the annual gathering of the Institute of Directors (IoD) with the likes of Virgin boss Richard Branson, chancellor George Osborne, shadow business secretary Chuka Umunna and mayor of London Boris Johnson.
Morning speaker Boris entertained delegates by comparing the economy to the formerly capsized cruise ship Costa Concordia.
While presumably intending the analogy to imply that after much effort, the economy was finally back afloat, The Capitalist can’t be the only one imagining a sinking ship being towed off to the scrapheap.
However, Boris was being talked up by a very big fan at the IoD dinner on Tuesday evening. Guest of honour and Lions rugby player Adam Jones, fresh from a visit to 10 Downing Street to meet the Prime Minister, told The Capitalist that the highlight of the visit hadn’t been meeting David Cameron, but “Boris making a beeline for me” that had really made his day.
