Boris Johnson: I will stand as an MP in 2015
Boris Johnson has said that "in all probability" he will stand as an MP at next year's general election, but added that he intends to see out his term as Mayor of London until 2016.
David Cameron has described the announcement as "great news."
Johnson has previously been the subject of intense speculation over a potential return to Westminster, and has been linked with the plum seat of Uxbridge and South Ruislip.
However, he refused to confirm or deny suggestion that there was already a deal for him to replace senior Tory Sir John Randall in the role.
At the end of a speech on Britain's role in the EU, Mr. Johnson said :
We have danced around it for an awfully long time now, and the Prime Minister has said he wants me back on his team.I can't endlessly go on dodging these questions as I try to do. I haven't got a seat lined up, but in all probability I will try to find somewhere to stand. It is highly unlikely I will be successful in that venture but I will try that. One thing that is absolutely clear is that I will serve out my mandate as London Mayor."
Johnson was MP for Henley from 2001 to 2008 when he left to become Mayor of London.
The Prime Minister has tweeted his support of Johnson's decision soon after the announcement was made.
Great news that Boris plans to stand at next year's general election – I've always said I want my star players on the pitch.
