Bookies open new market on Barclays bosses
SO BARCLAYS’ boss Antony Jenkins is sacked. John McFarlane, who’s only been chairman for three months, is acting chief, and the bookies have opened their markets.
McFarlane said they want “the best person in the world available to us”. Barclays will be looking at internal and external candidates for the role. Who are you backing?
First up, we have bookies’ favourite and Barclays group finance officer Tushar Morzaria. Ladbrokes are offering evens on his appointment. A former JP Morgan finance officer, Morzaria has the investment banking background McFarlane is after.
Gaining on Morzaria are Morgan Stanley president Colm Kelleher at 3/1, and Barclays chief operating officer Jonathan Moulds at 5/1. At slightly longer odds, Lloyds chief exec and the closest thing to a financial heartthrob Antonio Horta-Osorio is offered at 8/1. Look at that hair!
Although they’re the wild cards, Ladbrokes said they will be looking closely at the RBS-linked candidates, Ross McEwan (12/1) and Stephen Hester (16/1), who could swoop in at the last minute.
