Bloomberg asks Foster to design its new London HQ at Walbrook Square
BLOOMBERG, the financial media giant, yesterday said it had reached an agreement with Legal & General for the purchase of the Walbrook Square site to build a new European headquarters located in the heart of the City.
Bloomberg will construct two new buildings, one that will contain in excess of 500,000
square feet and one speculative building.
The site, which is 3.2 acres, will also include public spaces and retail units.
The company said it had commissioned architect Norman Foster of Foster to prepare plans for the building, which are in the early stages of development.
Foster said: “The project is an opportunity to create a bespoke, sustainable new headquarters building for Bloomberg, while at the same time creating an opportunity to improve the public realm in the very heart of the City of London.
Bloomberg’s current London headquarters in Finsbury Square has served as the company’s hub for Europe since 1987.
“Walbrook Square is one of the prime locations in London,” said Daniel Doctoroff, president of Bloomberg
“Our commitment to excellence in design will ensure that we create something exciting and yet respectful – especially given the site’s proximity to the Bank of England, St. Paul’s and Mansion House, among other London landmarks.”
