Blatter wants winter Qatar
FOOTBALL Association chairman Greg Dyke believes the Qatar 2022 World Cup will be held in the winter despite renewed speculation it could be staged in April or May.
The influential European Club Association has mooted a late spring tournament as an alternative to summer or winter, but Dyke believes world football chief Sepp Blatter would be opposed.
“His view is that we can’t possibly hold it in the summer,” said Dyke. “There seems to be some going back on that now, that we could hold it in the summer after all. But I just don’t think it’s possible and I don’t think he thinks it’s possible.”
A task force set up to scrutinise the sensitive issue is due to meet next week. Summer temperatures in Qatar can exceed 45C.
