Blacks replaces Bernstein with interim chair
FORMER Selfridges chief executive Peter Williams (pictured) has been made interim chairman of ailing Blacks Leisure.
The outdoor retailer’s leading shareholder Mike Ashley forced out chairman David Bernstein after withdrawing his support at last week’s shareholders’ meeting.
Julia Reynolds, the new chief executive, only started a few days ago.
Williams becomes interim chairman as the company continues its search for a permanent appointment. He has been an adviser to Blacks for the past few months.
Williams spent 13 years at Selfridges, rising from chief financial officer to chief executive before he left in 2004.
He also served as chief executive of Alpha Airports Group and as an executive director of JJB Sports, helping the firm stave off administration.
