Black Friday 2015 UK date and deals: The best offers to expect on 27 November, plus who were the winners and losers from last year
Black Friday is less than seven weeks away – it falls on 27 November this year – and already consumer sites are full of predictions for which deals we'll be falling over ourselves (and other people) to pick up in 2015.
We spent £810m last year, with John Lewis celebrating its biggest sales week of all time, and although the “festival” received plenty of backlash, both from retailers and politicians, the genie is definitely out of the bottle.
With a finite amount of money to be spent in the run up to Christmas, retailers will be hoping to win from this brief sales day. Looking at how Black Friday deals shifted consumer sentiment last year gives us a hint of what to expect this time around.
Last year Amazon UK cemented its place at the top of Comscore's list of the UK's online retailers, with Argos remaining in second place. Tesco rose on the back of its sales, while electricals specialists Currys and AVG entered the top 10. NotOnTheHighStreet shop up from 48th position in 2013 to 27th in 2014.
However Apple – which didn't offer any direct deals in the UK – fell in British shoppers' opinion, as did Next, Debenhams and Sainsbury's. These retailers could well go harder on the promotions this year, most likely excluding Next, which has always refused to follow the herd when it comes to discounting.
So, what are the best deals expected to be for this year?
With electricals top of the wish list, rumours are building around the various devices that will be going on sale for the day that became the UK's biggest single online shopping day of last year.
There is a huge expectation for Apple products, many hoping the Apple Watch will be among the devices to go on sale, as well as the iPad Pro, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
Amazon is using an Android image on its Black Friday 2015 promotional advertising so the expectations are high that these devices could go on sale. Last year prepaid phones went for as little as $19.99 in the US.
HotUKdeals actually has a clock counting down the seconds until the start of the retail bonanza, and a list of every UK retailer that is getting involved, including Argos, Tesco, John Lewis, eBay, Marks & Spencer, JD Sports, Sports Direct, Amazon, Currys PC World, Debenhams, Carphone Warehouse and so on. However the deals on the site relate to offers from last year.
