Es Que Love conquers Toormore to claim early Goodwood glory
ES QUE Love upset odds-on favourite Toormore yesterday to win the Lennox Stakes, the feature race on day one of Glorious Goodwood.
The Clive Cox-trained 7-1 shot, piloted by Adam Kirby, beat last year’s champion juvenile by a neck, with Toormore’s stablemate Anjaal third. Trainer Richard Hannon and jockey Richard Hughes did no better in the Molecomb Stakes, finishing third with Beacon, behind winner Cotai Glory.
Two-time champion jockey Paul Hanagan needed an X-ray on his arm after falling from White Nile in the Summer Stakes, which was won by Van Percy. He faces a medical check before being cleared to ride at Sandown tonight.
The Queen’s horse Estimate is set to run tomorrow at Goodwood despite a recent positive test.
