Betting: Top four place up for grabs in Premier League’s final weekend
As the Premier League’s most memorable season comes to its last weekend, the only thing it could be said to be lacking is a genuinely exciting final day showdown.
Leicester City’s fairytale at the top and Sunderland’s great escape at the bottom mean the title race and relegation battle have been settled.
However, the race for the final Champions League spot is still alive, with three sides still in with a mathematical chance.
Manchester City control their own destiny.
They sit two points above Manchester United, who missed a chance to overtake their neighbours when they lost 3-2 to West Ham on Tuesday.
The Hammers sit one point further back, and need a miracle to reach their first ever Champions League.
They require United to not beat Bournemouth at home, City to lose at Swansea, and to record a heavy victory themselves over Stoke to overturn a 15 goal difference deficit to City.
I can’t see them getting that many, but I like the look of the 21/20 with Betway for West Ham to beat an on-the-beach Potters side who are winless in six.
Manuel Pellegrini is managing City for the final time before handing over to Pep Guardiola in the summer, and he’ll certainly want to finish with a flourish.
Sergio Aguero is chasing the Golden Boot and City’s players will want to add to the 70 goals they’ve managed in the league this year – the most in the division.
Swansea’s last four games have all had over three goals in them – including a 4-1 win at West Ham last Saturday – so I recommend a small buy of total goals at 3.5 with Sporting Index.
United have an FA Cup final to look forward to, but there won’t be a party atmosphere at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Louis van Gaal’s functional football has sucked all life out of the Theatre of Dreams, and missing the top four will surely see the Dutchman shown the door.
The Red Devils have conceded just eight times at home this year, and while they should beat Bournemouth, it won’t be pretty.
Take United at 5/4 with Betway to win to nil on Sunday.
