Bent and Huddlestone get the nod from Capello
IN-FORM Darren Bent has been handed a chance to fight for a World Cup place after being named in Fabio Capello’s England squad for next week’s friendly with Brazil.
The Sunderland striker has been named in the 24-man party along with former Tottenham team-mate Tom Huddlestone and Aston Villa’s Stephen Warnock as Capello looks to cover the loss of no fewer than seven first-team regulars.
Both Carlton Cole and Emile Heskey miss England’s penultimate game before Capello names his World Cup squad, leaving the door open for Bent to build on his eight goals for the Black Cats so far this season.
Capello is also without Steven Gerrard, Rio Ferdinand, Ashley Cole, Aaron Lennon and David James for the game in Qatar, and will also lose David Beckham if Los Angeles Galaxy beat Chivas in the MLS play-offs.
