Benitez coy on Juventus after Reds slip up again
WOLVES (0) vs LIVERPOOL (0)
UNDER-FIRE Rafael Benitez remained tight-lipped over a possible move to Juventus after his Liverpool side suffered yet another setback in their bid for a Champions League place.
Benitez has been heavily linked with the Italian giants amid suggestions they are about to sack coach Ciro Ferrara.
The Spaniard saw his under-performing side miss another chance to close in on the Premier League top four after they were frustrated by a resolute Wolves back line at Molineux. Benitez’s agent has played down a move to Italy and was echoed by the manager, who insisted Liverpool’s form was his priority.
“I prefer to talk about the game,” he said. “Is the speculation a distraction? I was really focused today on trying to do the right things and to try and win this game. Is being linked with Juventus flattering? I prefer to concentrate on the game.”
Benitez admitted his side did not deserve three points, hailing Mick McCarthy’s Wolves for a battling second half display. Not even fit-again captain Steven Gerrard could inspire the Reds, who went close early through Albert Riera, while Wolves’ Kevin Doyle saw a goalbound effort deflected wide by Emiliano Insua.
