Beautiful things: Glass fruit, an orange clutch and headphones by Vertu
Watching an artist mould molten glass is a sensual experience. The thick liquid folds on top of itself, smouldering at the edges; it’s this danger factor that attracted Parisian sculptor Jeremy Maxwell Wintrebert to the medium. Wintrebert, whose glass installations have been on display at the V&A’s Glass Galleries, says, “It became my passion from the first minute I saw molten glass. It looked so hot, sexy, dangerous and challenging.”
Heritage champagne house Perrier-Jouët commissioned Wintrebert to create the above glass sculpture, which was exhibited at the V&A during the London Design Festival. This piece, entitled Filigree Spirit Fruit in Olive, is inspired, as the name suggests, by the shape of a fruit, and by the shape of the world itself. Its organic, misshapen form is intended to contrast with the modern gallery space.
Filigree Spirit Fruit in Olive is available to buy for £5,900 from glass specialist Vessel Gallery at 114 Kensington Park Road, W11 2PW or at vesselgallery.com
This timeless clutch was designed by the inimitable Edie Parker, who claims to have drawn inspiration from “handbag designs favoured by showgirls and socialites during the 1950s”. The bold, orange design will work perfectly with darker outfits to provide your autumn wardrobe with a welcome splash of colour.
The 16x10x5cm bag – sculpted from acrylic and finished with a marbled effect – is just big enough to squeeze an evening’s worth of essentials into. It features a push-clasp top fastening with a hinged base, with a logo-etched mirror lining.
