Barnet is a more than fair bet to land Ayr Gold
THE William Hill Ayr Gold Cup (3.50pm) takes centre stage this weekend and I’m going to put my faith in sprint king David Nicholls landing the race for a seventh time with his sole entry BARNET FAIR.
The six-year-old was a decent winner at Goodwood last month and promising apprentice Cam Hardie is reunited with him here. He is worth supporting each-way around the 25/1 mark or on the Sporting Index race index.
Newbury hosts a fantastic card tomorrow and my main fancy is Ed Walker’s GLORIOUS PROTECTOR in the Group Three Dubai Duty Free Legacy Cup (1.50pm).
The Azamour gelding just missed out on a spot in the Ebor and then comfortably landed a Listed race at Windsor. His trainer has been thinking about loftier targets than this Down Under and he could be a decent each-way price against some fairly exposed rivals.
Henry Candy’s juveniles have been in flying form this season and LIMATO should take all the beating in the Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes (2.20pm). Jungle Cat and Strath Burn could prove the biggest dangers.
Over at Newmarket, RAY WARD must go close in the Cesarewitch Trial (4.15pm) after an excellent run at Goodwood. I also wouldn’t put anyone off taking the 16/1 generally available for the Cesarewitch itself next month.
Finally, I’ve had a very strong word for John Gosden’s SPERRY in the fillies’ maiden (2.30pm) and she should be supported.
