Barack Obama congratulates Cameron on his new role as PM
DAVID Cameron’s first phone call as he made himself at home in Downing Street was from President Barack Obama.
The US President congratulated Cameron on his victory and invited him to visit the States in the summer. He said he looked forward to seeing him at the G8 and G20 meetings.
They also discussed Afghanistan, the Middle East Peace Process and Iran.
Cameron also received a call from German Chancellor Angela Merkel who invited him to come to Berlin. They discussed the world economy and the common European agenda.
Obama had previously said that while Brown had “substance”, Cameron has “sizzle”.
Cameron will be keen to foster the close relationship Tony Blair enjoyed with President George Bush.
