Banker Dunguib could be a damp squib for bookies
Here we are at last at the best week of the year – it feels like Christmas, birthday, and New Year’s Eve all rolled into one. But what we all want to know is who’s going to win, where’s the money going and which of the contenders have us bookies running scared?
And this year we have more reason than usual to be nervous about the Supreme Novices Hurdle with Irish banker Dunguib potentially carrying untold millions of punters cash to victory. The madcap Paddy Power special promises to give money back on all losing bets in the Festival’s curtain raiser if Dunguib wins the race. It seemed a good idea at the time but now it looks a little rash!
So we could be licking our wounds when they go to post for the Arkle and I think we’ll have another Irish trained winner in that race too. Captain Cee Bee has been all the rage and is a very decent horse but I really fancy Sizing Europe (11/2) to jump them into submission. He has never touched a twig.
And it could be a day to remember for the Sizing connections with Sizing Australia my fancy for the Cross Country. I’m not sure the great Grande Champetre can pull off another win despite his awesome record around this course. The others are catching him and I can’t see too much improvement in an 11-year-old.
