Balfour Beatty wins Scape Group public works contract worth £1.5bn
Construction firm Balfour Beatty has been appointed sole contractor to a new UK-wide civil engineering and infrastructure framework for public works valued at up to £1.5bn.
Individual projects within the framework, which will run until February 2019, are expected to be worth up to £40m each. The framework is operated by public sector-owned Scape Group and is open to all public sector bodies in the UK.
According to Balfour, it will be providing expertise and resources for engineering and infrastructure projects ranging from road repairs and coastal defence to light rail schemes and major road projects.
Leo Quinn, Balfour’s group chief executive, said: “Balfour Beatty has significant depth of expertise across the UK in delivering civil engineering projects successfully and through this appointment we will be able to improve delivery for our customers and expand our portfolio of local infrastructure schemes. I am also delighted that we share Scape’s commitment to employ and develop trainees and apprentices in acquiring the skills necessary to build lifelong careers, and to support the local businesses that the infrastructure sector relies on.”
