Baketime biscuits and crackers retailing in Aldi recalled by Food Standards Agency in pest contamination scare

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has urged customers not to eat a number of biscuit and cracker products sold at the discount supermarket chain Aldi as they have been manufactured in "unhygienic conditions".

The 16 affected products, made in a factory on Teeside by a company called Baketime, have been recalled in a notice on the FSA's website.

"All batches of the products [are] being recalled as they may have been subject to pest contamination," the FSA said.

Customers have been urged not to eat the products, which include cheese thins, fudge brownies and ginger nuts, and to return them in store for a full refund. The products also sell in discount chains Asvina, Booker and LBV.

Baketime told the BBC there had been "no evidence" of any contamination, although the company confirmed it had seen "evidence of pest activity" in both January and March this year.
