BAE deal with SFO on hold
BAE Systems may yet face trial over alledged allegations of bribery and corruption following yeterday’s decision by the High Court to grant an injunction against the Serious Fraud Office (SFO).
The injunction prevents the SFO from concluding its investigation into BAE Systems, Europe’s largest defence company.
Last month, the firm agreed to pay fines of £30m to settle UK investigations.
It is a significant win for social justice groups, Corner House and Campaign Against Arms Trade, who want to apply for a judicial review of of the SFO’s plea agreement with BAE.
The groups believe BAE got off lightly and that the allegations should be heard in court.
The court will decide by 20 March whether or not to grant permission for the review.
