Bacon Sarnies and £5,000 cuddles are the way to attract and keep employees
Most people consider themselves lucky if they get paid on time at the end of the month. Others, however, want a little bit extra to go with their salary, pension and perhaps a contribution to commuting costs.
Some companies, according to Glassdoor’s Benefit Review published today, really push the boat out when it comes to pampering employees.
At Jive Software, for instance, employees enjoy free food including Bacon Thursday and Hot Food Friday, healthy snacks, free drinks, including soft drinks, beers on tap and decent coffee, a pool table, a PS4 and a subsidised gym over the road.
Software firm Huddle offers a £5,000 joining bonus called a Huddle Cuddle and a gift worth £500 every year. Peer-to-peer money transfer service TranserWise takes all staff away on an annual, all-expenses-paid holiday in Estonia.
Joe Wiggins of Glassdoor said: “Perks might get people in the door, but when it comes to what keeps employees at companies and satisfied on the job, it’s a different story. According to Glassdoor economic research, culture and values, career opportunities and senior leadership are the most important factors in cultivating employee satisfaction. Thus, while benefits and perks are a great way to get employees interested in a company, they’re not among the leading factors that keep employees satisfied on the job long-term."
