Aussie wildcard bidding to upset world No1 Nadal
THE TWO most dominant players men’s tennis has ever known are in action at Wimbledon today.
World No1 Rafael Nadal continues his pursuit of a 15th grand slam title against Australian wildcard Nick Kyrgios, the surprise package of the tournament so far. And 17-time grand slam winner Roger Federer is looking to inflict an 11th defeat over Spain’s Tommy Robredo in their 13th meeting, though the No23 seed did win their most recent clash at last year’s US Open in straight sets.
Kyrgios, who has beaten No13 seed Richard Gasquet on his way to round four, is bidding to become the first player ranked outside the top 100 to defeat a world No1 at a grand slam since Jim Courier was beaten at Wimbledon in 1992.
Nadal and Federer are on course to meet in the semi-finals.
