ATP World Tour Finals 2015: Novak Djokovic revels in best season of his career as world No1 beats Roger Federer to win title for a record fourth successive year
World No1 Novak Djokovic hailed his best season yet after becoming the first man to win the ATP World Tour Finals four years in a row in London on Sunday evening.
Djokovic beat world No3 Roger Federer 6-3, 6-4 at the O2 Arena to claim his 11th title of a magnificent campaign in which he won three grand slams and six Masters series events.
The Serb reached 15 finals and has lost just one match since August – a defeat to 17-grand slam winner Federer in the round-robin stage that he avenged in the final.
“It has been a long season, but the best of my life,” he said. “Obviously I’m very proud, together with my team, for the achievements of the season. It could not have been a better finish. I’m trying to cherish every moment on court where I play at this level.”
Djokovic’s victory ensured that Andy Murray will end the year ranked No2 in the world for the first time, as Federer’s hopes of overtaking the Briton hinged on winning the season finale.
It also banked the 28-year-old current US Open, Wimbledon and French Open champion £1.36m in prize money.
“It’s never fun not being on the winning side, but it’s better than not playing at all like last year,” said Federer, who was forced to miss last year’s final through injury.
“I thought I played some great tennis all week and in the final, but Novak deserves the win today like so many times this year.”
Dutch-Romanian duo Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau earlier won the doubles title, beating Indian-Romanian pair Rohan Bopanna and Florin Mergea 6-4, 6-3 in the final.
