Athletes defend Farah over tests
BRITISH athletes have rallied to the defence of Mo Farah after it emerged that the double Olympic champion missed two drug tests.
Farah, whose coach Alberto Salazar and training partner Galen Rupp have denied claims they broke doping rules, was reported to have missed tests in the two years preceding his success at the London 2012 Games.
Former heptathlete Kelly Sotherton said: “People who think its easy not to miss tests. You do it for a year and see how you get on. It’s not as easy as you all suggest.”
Steeplechaser Eilish McColgan added: “I’ve never missed a test but there’s been several times where I’ve missed my slot! Easily done.”
“The ‘missed tests’ debate seems to be getting a little out of hand,” said European 800m silver medallist Michael Rimmer.
“Something that happens so infrequently and is not ‘routine’ can’t be expected to be at the forefront of anyone’s mind, particularly if it sometimes doesn’t happen for six months at a time!”
