Asos sees sales surge by 47 per cent
Online fashion retailer ASOS said it was on track to meet full-year profit forecasts after a 47 per cent surge in second-quarter sales.
ASOS, which launched a US website last month, also said it expected to launch French and German versions by the end of the month.
Retail sales jumped to £69.7m in the three months to 30 September, the company’s second quarter, including an increase of 21 per cent in Britain and 128 per cent overseas.
Chief executive Nick Robertson said: “With retail gross margin ahead of prior year and costs tightly managed, we expect our full year results to be in line with market expectations.”
ASOS targets internet-savvy 18-34 year-old women looking to emulate the designer looks of celebrities like Kate Moss, Sienna Miller and Alexa Chung at a fraction of the price.
ASOS shares have more than doubled in value this year, boosted by profit upgrades and speculation it could attract a bid from companies as diverse as Danish shareholder Bestseller, US internet giant Amazon and British retailers Marks & Spencer and Tesco.
