As Gransnet users back brexit, the EU referendum campaigns become a battle for the UK’s matriarchs
Matriarchs are divided on Brexit.
Gransnet, the younger sister to mothering website mumsnet, has polled its users to find out how grans are planning to vote on the referendum next month.
The study found that 52 per cent of nans intend to vote to leave the EU, against 38 per cent who say they will back Remain.
Grans seem to know what they want, as only seven per cent of users said they were still undecided, while 70 per cent believe they're making a well-informed decision.
Grannies are less scared because they remember the good ol' days before Britain joined the European Union. One user said: "I think that people who remember the time before Britain joined the EU are less frightened of the thought of going it alone. Younger voters have only ever known a life in Europe."
Many grandmothers feel cheated by bureaucratic laws "We voted originally to enter a common trading market. The EU has evolved by stealth and we didn't really notice what was happening until it was too late", said another user. "I feel we were conned."
The news must come as a shock to mothers, as a poll of Mumsnet users earlier this year found that over half of mums want to stay in the EU.
Meanwhile, mums across the capital are divided, as Netmums – the straight-laced, less biscuity alternative to Mumsnet – polled its own users and discovered that most were backing a brexit.
So mother doesn't know best, afterall.
