Thousands of cyclists take to London streets
MORE than 15,000 cyclists pedalled their way around an 100-mile route taking in much of central London yesterday, in the spectacular finale to a weekend of cycling events across the capital. The Prudential RideLondon festival – developed by the Mayor of London, London & Partners and Transport for London in partnership with Surrey County Council – saw professional and amateur riders come together to take part in races ranging from an eight-mile loop along traffic-free London streets to yesterday’s 100-mile challenge through the Surrey countryside. Over 70,000 cyclists hit the city’s streets during the two-day festival, with Wladimiro D’Ascenzo of Italy the first to cross the finish line on The Mall in yesterday’s 100-mile race.
