Arsenal and Tottenham players handed England recalls by interim boss Gareth Southgate
On-loan Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has been handed the chance to reignite his international career after being recalled to the England squad for Friday’s World Cup qualifier with Scotland and next week’s friendly against Spain.
Wilshere, 24, was left out of the Three Lions’ previous two squads but has proven his fitness during a temporary stint with Bournemouth and has started the Cherries’ last seven Premier League matches, completing 90 minutes in the past three.
“Jack Wilshere is a player that we feel has a lot of class and is now starting to get more 90 minutes under his belt,” said interim England boss Gareth Southgate. “It’s good to bring him back into the squad.”
Despite reservations from club boss Mauricio Pochettino, striker Harry Kane has also been handed a recall. Kane only returned to first-team action for Tottenham during yesterday’s north London derby, having been out since September with ankle ligament damage.
