ARE YOU SATISFIED WITH CONSERVATIVE PROPOSALS ON REGULATION?
ANGELA KNIGHT CHIEF EXECUTIVE, BBA
We’re pleased to see the highlighting of the European dimension within these proposals. There has to be a higher degree of engagement at a senior level with European authorities. We want to see a proportionate and stable regulatory framework that ensures
the industry can compete.
RICHARD LAMBERT DIRECTOR GENERAL, CBI
This is a very radical blueprint. Lots of big questions remain unanswered in these proposals. They include issues such as how the transition to a new structure would be managed, who would be responsible for markets and securities regulation, and whether the Bank
would have the capacity to carry out all of its new functions.
STEPHEN HADDRILL DIRECTOR GENERAL, ABI
We support the Conservatives’ proposal of a Financial Policy Committee sitting within the Bank of England and containing independent experts. Secondly, it is key that a successful regulatory framework must tackle overlap and underlap in responsibilities between
the respective agencies.
