Arcadia strikes deal to launch Topshop and Miss Selfridge in mainland China
Sir Philip Green's high street retailers Topshop and Miss Selfridge will debut in China next month through a deal with local online partner ShangPin.com.
The deal between Green's Arcadia Group and online department store ShangPain will take the two retailers to consumers in 400 cities across the country.
This is the first time any Arcadia retailer has entered mainland China, with Topshop making its first steps into Greater China last year with the launch of a Hong Kong store.
Arcadia is understood to be looking to build a physical presence throughout the country, and is thought to be in discussions with potential partners.
Green said: “We decided to partner with ShangPin in China because they demonstrated to us their capacity to operate brands and understand marketing and brand building.
"As we continue to grow our global expansion, this will be a step forward using the power of China’s online reach and therefore selling into one of the world’s most exciting consumer markets.”
ShangPin chief executive David Zhao added: “[Topshop and Miss Selfridge] are already successful international retailers who have made their mark on the British high street as well as with partners around the globe and I am confident they will do well in China.
"We plan to deliver the most current fashion trends into 400 cities across China to dress a new generation of fashion lovers.”
ShangPin launched in 2010 and has more than five million users. Brands include Diesel, Oasis and Diane von Furstenberg.
