Apple issues global recall for Beats Pill XL due to fire safety risk, including UK
Apple has issued a voluntary global recall of a Beats speaker range due to concerns overheating could cause a fire.
Owners of Beats Pill XL in all five colours have been warned not to use the speakers and return them to Apple for a refund or credit.
The speakers, worth £215, have been on sale since January 2014 and have been sold in scores of countries around the world.
Apple acquired Beats, the company founded by Dr Dre and famous for its headphones, last year, after the speakers were put into production.
"Customer safety is always a top priority at both Apple and Beats, and we have voluntarily decided to recall this product, Apple has determined that, in rare cases, the battery in the Beats Pill XL may overheat and pose a fire safety risk.," Apple said.
"The Beats Pill XL can be identified by the Beats 'b' logo on the speaker grille and the words 'beats pill XL' on the handle. The product is sold in five colours: black, metallic sky, pink, titanium and white."
Customers are being advised to return speakers via the Apple website only, not in stores. No other Apple or Beats products are affected.
