Ancelotti hopes he’ll be at Chelsea for long haul
CHELSEA manager Carlo Ancelotti maintains he won’t be falling on his sword at Stamford Bridge and claimed Roman Abramovich must decide whether or not he should be sacked.
With hopes of retaining their Premier League crown gone, Chelsea, FA Cup winners in each of the last two seasons, crashed out of the competition at Stamford Bridge after Everton prevailed in a penalty shootout on Saturday.
After a poor run of domestic form since the big-money arrivals of Fernando Torres and David Luiz, Ancelotti’s position is the subject of speculation once again – Fulham boss Mark Hughes was strongly linked to the managerial job at Stamford Bridge yesterday – but the Italian (inset) insists all is not lost this season.
Asked if he would ever consider resigning, the Italian said: “No, not me. I don’t have to consider my position. It is the owner that has to consider my position, not myself.”
Meanwhile, Roma, who have been linked with an audacious move to bring their former player, Ancelotti, back to Serie A, last night accepted the resignation of former Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri following a 4-3 defeat at Genoa.
