The revelation…comes as something of a shock to us, not least because at the company’s results presentation last week, management stood up and proudly highlighted how the group had avoided such scandals. Surely this investigation… ought to have been considered when making these comments?

There is some irony that a few days after describing its approach as “boring” at its interims, Standard Chartered should become embroiled in yet another potential banking scandal. The allegations serve to add more risk to an already beleaguered sector.
