Amazon pulls hoverboards from sale over safety fears
Amazon has reportedly pulled hoverboards from sale on its site, over safety concerns.
The online retailer has asked sellers of the gadget to prove they conform with safety standards in a bid to weed out fakes which could be dangerous, the Verge reported.
A search on Amazon UK shows there are none for sale, only accessories. Amazon had not responded to a request for comment at the time of publication.
The so-called hoverboard, really more of a self-propelled scooter, has been growing in popularity and gained widespread attention after the UK's Crown Prosecution Service ruled they are illegal to use on roads and pavements. On Friday a 15-year-old boy was killed in London after colliding with a bus while riding one.
Further safety concerns have been raised after several reports of devices catching fire when charging. Trading Standards has seized thousands of hoverboards which do not comply with safety standards.
