Amazon contemplates Tube ticket offices as collection points
Transport for London is said to be in talks with online retail giant Amazon to convert Tube ticket offices into "drop off" points for parcels.
An Amazon Locker is already being trialled at Hammersmith station. The self-service collection points are popping up at pick-up locations across the UK, and are expected to be piloted in other Tube stations by the end of the year.
The news came just hours after Tube bosses confirmed plans for a 24-hour Tube service, and for the closure of most ticket offices by 2015, which will see 750 job losses.
The move is part of a push to modernise the Tube and make greater use of technology, and as the retail industry widens click-and-collect provision.
Supermarket Asda recently announced a pilot project with Transport for London to trial click-and-collect services at tube stations across the capital. The pilot will be in six stations: commuters travelling from East Finchley, Harrow and Wealdstone, High Barnet, Highgate, Stanmore and Epping can use the Asda app to put in same-day orders to pick up from their local collection point.
