Amazon and Argos deals are winning UK Black Friday 2015 and Christmas online shopping race
It looks like Father Christmas is planning to do most of his shopping at Amazon and Argos this year after an analysis of Google’s most popular Christmas search terms showed that the two retail giants have taken the greatest share of visits over the last three months.
Linkdex has crunched data on 7,000 Christmas-related keyword terms, representing over 8.5m monthly searches on Google between August and September.
The technology firm found that when consumers browsed for Christmas gifts such as “Playstation 4” and ”Apple iPad” or “children’s bikes”, Amazon received the biggest share of visits to its website, or 2.88 per cent of all 8.5m searches.
Argos trailed closely behind Amazon with 2.87 per cent of search followed by Apple (2.67 per cent) and Currys (1.65), Linkdex’s data showed. Surprisingly, John Lewis only ranked seventh (1.23 per cent behind Tesco and Game Digital.
Linkdex’s head of insight, Jono Alderson, said: “Christmas shopping starts sooner every year, and from as early as September we've been seeing a massive 8.5m searches per month for products, toys and tech which are likely to be big sellers this Christmas.”
“Organic search represents a huge opportunity for retailers but, based on current data, some of the big players might have to resort to costly paid advertising to make up for shortfalls in their organic visibility if they want to capture traffic and sales over the Christmas period."
