Almacantar wins approval for Marble Arch tower overhaul
Almacantar was given the go-ahead yesterday by Westminster Council for revised plans by architect Rafael Vinoly to redevelop Marble Arch tower in the West End.
The £450m scheme will see Almacantar demolish the 1960s tower and replace it with an office building and a residential tower.
The developer has revised its original plans by putting a level of office space in the residential and adding a extra floor of housing to the top of the tower.
The taller, 18-storey tower will have 49 luxury flats, shops as well as a revamped Odeon cinema on the ground floor. A second seven-storey tower will have 123,000 square feet of offices.
Almacantar said the affordable part of the scheme would be provided in a separate building at 466-490 Edgware Road, where 47 of the 76 homes would be affordable.
The development will also include a disused petrol station restored on the site, which Almacantar claims is the first new petrol station in London for over 10 years.
