All I want for Christmas is Great Portland Estates and Aldermore shares: These FTSE 250 chief executives have delivered the best returns for their investors
It's the time of year when Santa makes his list and checks it twice – and it looks like the likes of Great Portland Estates boss Toby Courtauld and Aldermore's Philip Monks will be near the top of the "nice section", after new research suggested they're among the most successful chief executives on the FTSE 250.
The research, by broker TD Direct Investing, found Courtauld has delivered the best sustained return for investors, with earnings growth of more than 208 per cent per share over the past five years, while Monks has delivered almost 107 per cent.
The ranking, of the UK's top 50 chief execs, found age was an indicator of success, with more older bosses appearing higher up the list. Non-British chief executives were also more successful – while those with degrees, preferably from Oxbridge, tended to find themselves higher up the list.
But it also suggests it's not just good leadership that brings success: bosses from the property sector make up 20 per cent of the top 25, despite only making up 10 per cent of those reviewed.
