All the attributes: Harry backs new boy Fer to have big season
QPR boss Harry Redknapp believes new recruit Leroy Fer ticks plenty of boxes after the former Norwich City midfielder put pen to paper yesterday and moved to Loftus Road for a fee said to be £8m.
The 24-year-old, who scored for Holland during their group stage victory over Chile at the World Cup in Brazil, has signed a three-year contract and could make his debut at Tottenham on Sunday.
Fer is QPR’s fourth signing of the summer after sealing deals for former England captain Rio Ferdinand, Steven Caulker and Jordan Mutch, with Redknapp adamant his latest acquisition has the credentials to be a big hit at Loftus Road this season.
“Leroy has all the attributes you would be looking for from a central midfielder,” he said. “He’s just an outstanding midfielder player – great physique, fine ability and he gets box-to-box. He’s another excellent signing.”
Fer netted four goals in 32 appearances for Norwich last season but was unable to prevent the Canaries suffering relegation to the Championship in his first campaign in English football after arriving from FC Twente.
Fer added: “Harry told me I was a big target for him and when you hear that from a coach, you want to work for them and play for them.”
