Alexa can now let you automatically check the balance of your pension
Amazon’s Echo Dot gadget can be used for a number of different functions – but now it can even automatically check on the balance of your pension.
The smart speaker, which is activated by saying “Alexa” can already switch the lights in your home on and off, read the news and play your music using just your voice.
But insurer Aviva has added a new skill which links customers to their account, allowing the voice assistant to tell them the balance of their pension.
Customers registered to MyAviva will be able to make use of the system.
Blair Turnbull, managing director of UK & International Digital at Aviva, said:
“The new Aviva skill transforms the way people can connect with their pension, allowing them to effortlessly find out their latest pension value from the comfort of their home.
“Increasing people’s interest in pension saving will only happen if we make it easy for them to check on their progress. The Aviva Alexa skill and our MyAviva app can really help people take control of their retirement planning.”
Figures from the insurer show that around a third of people only check their pension balance once a year, while a fifth check it less regularly than that.
It’s hoped that the move will encourage savers to check on the balance of their pot more often.
Separately, Aviva’s Canadian division has also made a Skill to allow customers to ask Alexa for a motor insurance quote.
