Air France bomb scare “false alarm” after flight AF 463 from Mauritius to Paris makes emergency landing in Kenya
An Air France flight forced to make an emergency landing in Kenya after a suspicious item was found was a false alarm, said the airline's chief executive Frederic Gagey.
The Boeing 777 from Mauritius to Paris was diverted to Moi International Airport in Mombasa where 459 passengers and 11 cabin crew were safely evacuated from the plane. The airport was also evacuated, but flights have now resumed.
Police located a suspect package in the toilets where it had been spotted by a passenger who then raised the alarm.
After investigating, the device was found to be a fake made of sheets of paper and a timer, said Gagey speaking at a press conference.
Six passengers are reportedly being questioned.
Gagey said the company is in touch with French prosecutors to open an investigation into the incident.
