Aguero sparks comeback as win keeps pressure on Blues
REIGNING champions Manchester City exorcised their Stadium of Light demons by recording a third straight Premier League win courtesy of a Sergio Aguero-inspired comeback against Sunderland last night.
City have lost 1-0 on each of their last four visits to Sunderland and, buoyed by their stalemate with top of the table Chelsea at the weekend, the Black Cats surged into the ascendency courtesy of frontman Connor Wickham.
Their lead was wiped out within a matter of minutes by the irrepressible Aguero, the Argentine hitman rifling an effort past former City keeper Costel Pantilimon before ex-Fiorentina striker Stevan Jovetic netted a second before half-time.
Full-back Pablo Zabaleta stretched the advantage with a chipped effort 10 minutes after the break as Aguero completed the rout with a fourth inside the final 20 minutes – taking his tally to 66 goals in 101 Premier League appearances.
City remain six points behind Chelsea at the summit but have now put clear daylight between themselves and Southampton, who lie four points behind Manuel Pellegrini’s side in third.
Hull moved out of the relegation zone after halting a dire run of four straight defeats with a draw at Everton, Sone Aluko cancelling out Romelu Lukaku’s opener for Roberto Martinez’s side, who lie 11th.
