Afme swoops on banking expert Lever
CITY veteran Michael Lever is taking his formidable expertise in Europe’s biggest banks to capital markets lobby group the Association for Financial Markets in Europe (Afme).
Lever, one of the City’s foremost blue-chip analysts before becoming a partner at communications group Brunswick in 2008, has a 20-year stockbroking career that spans leading roles at Credit Suisse, Nomura and HSBC among others.
He now joins AFME’s top team to lead its prudential regulation portfolio, advising its membership of UK and European wholesale banks on new regulation such as the Basel capital adequacy requirements.
Lever said he would be lobbying Brussels to ensure regulation is “appropriate, proportionate and consistent”.
He will also lead AFME’s response to the Independent Commission on Banking.
AFME chief executive Simon Lewis said he was “delighted that we have attracted someone of Michael’s calibre.”
“His understanding of banks’ financial structures and of the European banking sector in particular will be great assets to our members,” he said.
Lever added: “I am very pleased to be joining the AFME at such an important time for the European banking sector. There is a very full regulatory agenda and hence much work to be done on behalf of members.”
