AEG: O2 shows we can make Spurs bid work
TOTTENHAM’S partner in their bid for the Olympic Stadium, entertainment giant AEG, says its transformation of the 02 proves they can deliver a financially successful venue that attracts visitors all year round.
Spurs, managed by Harry Redknapp (above), are locked in a two-way fight with West Ham for the £537m facility and want to develop the Olympic Park into a “major tourist attraction” that also incorporates hotels and shops.
AEG senior executive director Sarah McGuigan added: “We have some exciting and innovative plans for the stadium and surrounding area. Just take a look at the O2, along with our other venues across the world, and you get a sense of the variety and scale of what we are proposing, from international sports, music and X-Games [extreme sports] to expos, theatre and heritage festivals.”
The details emerged as a BBC survey found that 81 per cent of Londoners are opposed to Tottenham’s plan to demolish and rebuild the stadium without an athletics track. West Ham intend to keep the track if named preferred bidder by legacy chiefs next month.
