Adebayor sees red as City shot down in extra-time
STOKE CITY (3) v/s MANCHESTER CITY (1)
STOKE struck twice in extra-time to stun 10-man Manchester City and set up a quarter-final trip to holders Chelsea.
Ryan Shawcross and Tuncay scored in a five-minute spell to condemn City to a defeat that piles further pressure on manager Roberto Mancini.
A tense affair burst into life in the 79th minute when substitute Tuncay teed up Dave Kitson to fire the Potters in front. A mere two minutes later Emmanuel Adebayor laid on the equaliser for Craig Bellamy, who half-volleyed past Thomas Sorensen.
Adebayor was then shown a straight red card for violent conduct after raising an arm against Shawcross.
City’s misery deepened five minutes into extra-time when Shawcross met a trademark Rory Delap long throw and headed past Shay Given.
Tuncay sealed another major scalp, following the fourth-round defeat of Arsenal, when he beat two men and slotted home in the 99th minute.
