THE INSIDER
With the David Pipe trained Hunterview failing to make the cut, the market for tomorrow’s Paddy Power Imperial Cup at Sandown (3.05pm) is in turmoil. This race has been won six times by Martin Pipe and twice by David, but the gods have taken exception this year.
No Pipe runner allows someone else the opportunity to win this coveted prize and the horse I think will take advantage is QASPAL. This Philip Hobbs inmate has a very attractive weight of 10st 3lb and could follow-up to claim the £75,000 bonus at the Cheltenham Festival next week. I would take an early price on the JP McManus owned runner, as I can see it halving as race time looms – especially if his owner puts his money down.
Wolverhampton hosts the Williamhill.com Lincoln Trial Handicap tomorrow (3.25pm). Extraterrestrial is rated the best horse and could easily win this warm-up event but stall 13 and the all-weather surface are against him. The horse I’m going to back isn’t one to go mad about but is definitely worth a decent punt.
VITZNAU is well handicapped and has run well after a break. The negative is that he hasn’t won since April 2008 but he did put in a good performance last March in a Listed contest at Wolverhampton.
