Johnson not yet ready, says Mancini
SUNDERLAND (1) v/s MANCHESTER CITY (1)
MANCHESTER CITY boss Roberto Mancini says Adam Johnson is not yet ready to stake a claim for England’s World Cup squad despite his late heroics at the Stadium of Light.
The 22-year-old winger fired a stunning injury-time goal to deny his hometown club and earn below-par City a precious point in their bid for a Champions League place.
Left-sided Johnson is being seen as a possible late entrant to Fabio Capello’s England squad for this summer’s World Cup, but Mancini believes it may have just come too soon for the ex-Middlesbrough man.
“Adam is a good player but a young player,” the Italian said. “I think that in future he will be a good player for the national team but now, I don’t know.
“Maybe, I don’t know, I don’t decide. I think the England national team has a good manager and he knows Adam Johnson very well and he will decide.”
Johnson’s fantastic strike into the top corner of the net from 18 yards cancelled out Kenwyne Jones’s eighth minute opener for the Black Cats, who stay 14th in the table.
